Defence MRO Companies in London: 36 Active Firms (2026)
Defence MRO companies in London maintain, repair and support military equipment for defence and aerospace customers across the capital.
Procurement usually sits with engineering, operations and contract-management teams rather than a single central buyer. London suppliers in this segment tend to sell to defence primes, aerospace operators, government customers and security-sensitive facilities, with work awarded through framework-style or call-off contracts. Typical engagements are service packages: scheduled maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair programmes, parts support, field engineering and compliance documentation. The buyer is usually paying for equipment availability and evidence of safe work, not just workshop capacity, so audit trails, response times and technical accreditation tend to matter as much as price.

London has 36 actively trading defence MRO companies in this cohort, a compact market compared with broader business-services categories in the capital. Reported employment totals 501 people, suggesting a base weighted towards specialist engineering and support teams rather than large depot-style employers. Only 3 companies report turnover above £5M, while 2 were incorporated since 2022, so the list is not dominated by very young entrants. That shape fits a contract market where customer trust, facilities access and technical sign-off can take time to build.
Defence MRO work sits in a procurement environment where customer approval, security handling and documentation are part of the service rather than administrative extras. Providers may need to evidence technician competence, parts traceability, controlled-information handling and maintenance history for equipment used by defence, aerospace or security customers. London adds a particular commercial shape: many suppliers are close to headquarters, programme-management teams and specialist subcontractors, while heavier physical maintenance may be coordinated through partner sites outside the capital. The result is a market with a high share of technical support, compliance and coordination work.
The London cohort appears more likely to deepen around specialist sustainment, parts coordination and field-support roles than to become a broad base of heavy maintenance facilities. Contract-led demand tends to favour providers with repeat customer relationships, documented procedures and staff able to work within security-sensitive environments. New entrants may find openings in diagnostics, obsolescence management and niche equipment support, but customer approval cycles can slow commercial momentum. Consolidation is plausible where small engineering teams hold useful permissions or scarce technical skills, although the market still looks relationship-based rather than platform-led.

Key facts
About 8% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (3 of 36 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
5% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (2 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
London defence MRO sits between engineering services, specialist logistics and through-life support.
The work covers maintenance, repair, overhaul and support for military equipment used by defence and aerospace customers.
Buyers tend to value continuity of supply because the segment supports equipment already in service, rather than one-off equipment sales.
The market mixes niche technical contractors with broader service organisations, reflecting the range of support work around defence and aerospace equipment.

How London defence MRO companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Defence MRO firms earn revenue from keeping equipment usable, certifiable and documented over its service life. Work is usually sold as contracted support rather than one-off repair alone, with pricing shaped by retainers, call-off rates, fixed-price work packages, parts margins and field-engineering days. A London provider may act as a technical coordinator, specialist repair house or support partner, depending on what can be handled in-house and what is passed to approved workshops. Margins tend to depend on utilisation, parts availability, rework control and the cost of maintaining security and quality systems, so commercial conversations often sit close to operational delivery.
Who they sell to
Most buyers are organisations with assets that cannot simply be taken out of service when faults appear: defence contractors, aerospace operators, public-sector bodies and private facilities with security-sensitive equipment. Decision-making usually involves engineering heads, programme managers, operations directors, procurement teams and contract owners, with finance joining when service commitments or liability terms are material. Contracts are typically won through direct relationships, approved supplier lists, framework competitions or formal tenders. Sales cycles are often measured in months rather than weeks because buyers need evidence of competence, traceability, insurance, access controls and the ability to handle controlled information.
What they buy
Most defence MRO firms tend to spend on systems and services that reduce delivery risk rather than on broad growth tooling alone. Relevant categories include asset and maintenance-management software, quality-management systems, document control, parts inventory, secure collaboration, cyber security, project accounting, workforce scheduling, CRM for contract pipelines and reporting tools for service performance. They may also buy specialist recruitment, vetting support, bid-writing, legal advice on public procurement, insurance, facilities compliance, calibration services, logistics and technical training. Sellers should expect a practical buying culture: products that fit existing approval processes and evidence requirements usually land better than generic productivity claims.
Why and how to sell to them
Defence MRO buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when contract volumes change, a new framework is pursued, technicians are added, audit findings create remediation work, or parts shortages expose weak planning. Leadership changes and movement into larger government or aerospace contracts can also trigger spending, particularly where manual spreadsheets and informal document stores no longer satisfy customer scrutiny. Outbound works better when it starts from availability, traceability, approval burden or bid risk, rather than generic cost saving. London firms may value offers that help a compact technical team look contract-ready to larger customers without adding unnecessary process.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
