Edtech Companies in London: 100+ Active Firms (2026)
Edtech companies in London build digital learning, assessment and school-management tools for education providers and learners.
Procurement tends to sit with trust finance teams, heads of digital learning, assessment leads and IT or safeguarding staff rather than with classroom users alone. Buying centres split between institutional learning platforms, assessment and tutoring workflows, administration and compliance systems, and content or training services wrapped around software. London suppliers usually sell to schools, multi-academy trusts, colleges, universities and professional training providers; some also run parent- or learner-facing channels where the institution still shapes adoption. Engagements are typically recurring subscriptions, annual licences or services-enabled deployments, with purchasing moving from departmental trials to estate-wide roll-outs once integration, pupil-data handling and measurable learner outcomes have been checked.
London has 129 actively trading edtech companies, making this a relatively compact software and content cohort rather than a broad technology catch-all. Reported employment totals 1,491 people, so the footprint is visible but not especially deep by London software standards. The revenue profile also looks selective: 16 companies report turnover above £5M, while 15 were incorporated since 2022. That mix points to a market with a base of established institutional vendors and a smaller inflow of newer operators, rather than a recent formation wave overwhelming the category.
UK edtech sits across education procurement, privacy and safeguarding rather than under a sector licence. Providers handling learner, teacher or child information need to work within GDPR, ICO guidance and e-privacy rules, with the Children’s code relevant where children are likely users or where a provider helps decide how children’s information is processed. School and college buyers also assess broadband readiness, wireless access, filtering and monitoring, cyber security, digital leadership and governance under Department for Education digital and technology standards. Edtech UK, identified by gov.uk as a national network and advisory forum, gives the category a policy-facing route without making it a regulated profession.
Demand appears to be moving towards tools that can pass school procurement checks, prove effects on learning workflows and fit into existing identity, network and safeguarding arrangements. Content-only propositions may find it harder to defend pricing unless they sit inside assessment, administration or teacher-workflow budgets. Enterprise sales cycles tend to favour vendors with implementation support and evidence materials, while smaller specialists may remain dependent on pilots and referrals. Consolidation pressure is likely to come from curriculum breadth, compliance overhead and integration costs, not from a sudden shift in how institutions buy education software.

Key facts
About 12% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (16 of 129 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
11% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (15 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
The ICO says edtech products and services that process children’s personal information may fall within the Children’s code, including some school-provided services where the provider influences processing.
By 2030, schools and colleges are expected to work towards digital standards covering broadband, wireless networks, governance, filtering and monitoring, and cyber security.
Government market guidance says the UK attracts 41% of all European investment in educational technology.
A UK edtech classification counts 1,112 companies considered and average company growth of 8.7% per year.

How London edtech companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
London edtech firms usually earn through recurring subscriptions, annual licences and paid implementation rather than one-off content sales. Revenue often attaches to seats, learner volumes, school sites, trust estates or assessment usage, with services added for onboarding, migration, training and curriculum configuration. The product shape ranges from hosted learning environments and assessment workflows to tutoring operations, administration tools, safeguarding systems and digital content wrapped in reporting. Smaller contracts may begin as departmental pilots or per-course licences; larger institutional deployments tend to price around user bands, integration work and support commitments, because schools and universities need budget certainty and evidence before expanding use.
Who they sell to
Most sell into institutions rather than to individual teachers acting alone. Typical buyers include multi-academy trusts, local school groups, colleges, universities and professional training providers, with parents or learners sometimes sitting at the edge of the commercial model. Decision-makers tend to include finance directors, heads of digital learning, assessment leads, curriculum owners, IT managers, safeguarding leads and procurement teams. Lower-value tools can move through direct sales or self-serve trials, but estate-wide agreements usually need a formal procurement route, security review, integration check and budget holder approval. Sales cycles therefore follow academic planning windows as much as ordinary software buying calendars.
What they buy
Most edtech firms tend to spend on the operating stack needed to sell, deploy and evidence software in regulated education settings. Common categories include CRM, marketing automation, billing, subscription analytics, customer support, implementation project management, identity and access management, cloud hosting, observability, security testing, vulnerability management, data warehousing and product analytics. They also buy education-facing services: procurement advisory, privacy and data-protection support, accessibility testing, safeguarding review, curriculum consultancy, content production, teacher training, bid writing and specialist recruitment. Firms with institution-led sales often value tools that make pilots measurable, renewals easier to defend and implementation teams less dependent on bespoke spreadsheets.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying intent often appears when an edtech supplier moves from founder-led selling to repeatable institutional roll-outs, wins a larger trust or university deployment, hires senior revenue or implementation staff, prepares for procurement frameworks, or revises its approach to GDPR, ICO expectations and safeguarding. Pain points tend to cluster around long budget cycles, proof of learner outcomes, integration with school systems, low IT capacity among customers and renewal risk after pilots. Outbound messages work better when they name the education workflow affected: reducing evidence-gathering for procurement, shortening onboarding, improving support triage, tightening data governance, or helping account teams convert pilots into multi-site contracts.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
