FMCG Companies in Brighton: 500+ Active Firms (2026)
FMCG companies in Brighton make, import and distribute fast-moving consumer goods across food, drink, household and personal care markets.
Buying centres tend to sit with founders, commercial directors, operations managers and technical or compliance staff rather than a dedicated software or procurement function. The Brighton cohort includes consumer brands, importers and wholesalers selling through grocery, hospitality, ecommerce and distributor channels, so engagements often centre on regional listings, distributor onboarding, contract manufacturing, warehousing, labelling control and repeat-order fulfilment. Customer relationships are mostly B2B, with retail buyers, foodservice operators and distributors setting terms on margin, availability, packaging and recall readiness. The more relevant prospects are operators with sustained sell-through and documented supply chains, not very small lifestyle sellers or short-run product experiments.
Brighton has 551 actively trading FMCG firms, making it a sizeable local cohort but not a proxy for UK-wide consumer goods manufacturing. Reported employment across the Brighton cohort is 1,130 people; the footprint therefore looks more like a mix of brand owners, importers, wholesalers and small production teams than a city dominated by very large plants. The commercial centre of gravity appears to be channel management, supply-chain coordination and repeat fulfilment, with manufacturing present but not necessarily the only route to scale.
FMCG lacks a unified licensing regime because food, drink, household and personal care lines sit under different product rules. Food and drink operators need prepacked-food labelling that is accurate, not misleading and aligned with Food Standards Agency guidance in Great Britain, with EU food law still relevant for Northern Ireland trade. Household, beauty and personal care lines sit closer to product-safety controls: the Office for Product Safety and Standards treats the General Product Safety Regulations as the baseline for safe consumer products, with traceability, risk notification and recall duties usually enforced by local trading standards. Packaging reporting and fees also matter where import or supply activity crosses gov.uk extended producer responsibility thresholds.
Brighton’s FMCG base appears likely to remain weighted toward brand ownership, importing and specialist production rather than large-scale manufacturing. Operators with repeat retail or foodservice demand tend to need better control of formulation records, packaging evidence, supplier checks and recall processes as they move beyond local channels. The smaller end of the cohort may stay exposed to margin pressure from logistics, packaging and retail listing costs, while scaled firms are likely to use contract manufacturing and distributors to extend reach without building large local production sites. Consolidation looks more plausible around channel access and category depth than around broad consumer-goods platforms.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (10 of 551 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
23% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (132 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Food and drink suppliers must follow mandatory prepacked-food labelling under retained Regulation 1169/2011 in Great Britain; EU food law continues to apply in Northern Ireland.
The General Product Safety Regulations 2005 set the Great Britain baseline for non-food consumer goods, with duties covering safety, traceability, risk notification and recalls.
Packaging importers and suppliers may need to report packaging data and pay extended producer responsibility fees once turnover and packaging-tonnage thresholds are met.
Food and drink manufacturing contributes £35 billion to the UK economy and accounts for 18.8% of total UK manufacturing turnover.
ONS retail sales volumes rose by 0.7% in 2024 after declines in 2023 and 2022, while food store volumes fell in 2024.

How Brighton FMCG companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Revenue usually comes from physical goods rather than licence income: cases, pallets, repeat purchase orders, distributor margins and ecommerce orders. Brighton FMCG operators typically make money through wholesale pricing, retailer terms, hospitality supply, direct online sales or import-and-distribution mark-ups. Some own the brand and outsource production, while others manage buying, storage and onward sale. Commercial engagements often begin with a sample run or trial listing, then move into rolling purchase orders, seasonal promotional plans or annual supply terms. Pricing tends to be shaped by volume, shelf life, packaging, freight, retailer margin and the cost of failed or delayed fulfilment.
Who they sell to
Their customers are usually trade buyers rather than consumers alone: independent retailers, grocery and convenience groups, hospitality operators, distributors, online merchants and specialist wholesalers. Decision-makers tend to include category buyers, procurement managers, commercial directors, operations leads and, in foodservice, chefs or site operators with direct control over menus and replenishment. Smaller buyers may purchase through direct relationships and repeat orders, while larger accounts usually expect samples, margin sheets, proof of supply continuity, insurance, product specifications and recall procedures. Sales cycles are often short for local trade accounts and longer where distributor onboarding, retailer category reviews or compliance checks sit between the first conversation and the first order.
What they buy
Most Brighton FMCG firms tend to spend on systems and services that reduce stock, labelling and fulfilment friction. Relevant software categories include inventory control, order management, warehouse management, batch traceability, quality management, artwork approval, accounting, CRM, demand planning, ecommerce operations and retailer reporting. Services often sit around packaging design, product safety advice, labelling review, food-safety documentation, outsourced finance, customs support, logistics, recruitment and trade marketing. Infrastructure spending is more practical than glamorous: storage, cold-chain provision where relevant, contract packing, testing, freight, returns handling and equipment for small production or fulfilment teams.
Why and how to sell to them
Commercial intent often appears when an FMCG operator wins a new listing, adds a distributor, moves production to a contract manufacturer, enters Northern Ireland trade, changes warehouse arrangements or has to formalise recall and traceability processes. Margin pressure, stock write-offs, packaging changes and retailer deductions make buyers wary of abstract efficiency claims, so outbound works better when it names a specific operating problem: fewer order errors, clearer batch records, faster label approval, tighter cash collection or less manual reporting. Firms incorporated since 2022 may still be testing channels; the more responsive prospects usually have repeat demand and enough operational complexity for a new supplier to matter.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
