Housing Support Companies in the UK: 216 Active Firms (2026)
Housing support charities provide accommodation, homelessness prevention and tenant services across the UK charity sector.
Commissioning usually sits with public-sector partners, grant funders and internal housing or tenant-service teams rather than discretionary consumer buyers. Delivery is typically organised around accommodation operations, homelessness prevention casework, tenancy sustainment and advice, with income blended from contracts, grants, donations and service fees. Engagements are rarely transactional; they are usually organisation-level service relationships where buyers and funders look for evidence of local referral routes, safeguarding practice, continuity and the ability to manage vulnerable households. Specialist charities may run focused advice or prevention work, while broader operators combine accommodation with ongoing resident support.
Across the UK, 216 actively trading housing support charities sit in this cohort, with a reported employment footprint of 1,564 people. The scale profile is weighted towards established service operators rather than a wide pool of larger institutions: only 3 have reported turnover above £5M, while 12 were incorporated since 2022. That mix points to a market where continuity, commissioning relationships and local referral routes matter more than short-cycle expansion, and where many organisations remain closer to specialist service charities than multi-site housing institutions.
Providers operate at the junction of charity governance, housing standards, public procurement and safeguarding. The relevant obligations depend on the service model: accommodation providers carry property, tenancy and resident-safety duties, while advice and prevention services are more exposed to referral quality, casework controls and contract reporting. Funding structure also matters. Grant-funded programmes often have restricted-use conditions, commissioned services are tied to outcomes and reporting cycles, and donation-backed activity gives more discretion but less predictable income. For researchers, the important distinction is usually between charities that directly house people and those that provide prevention, advice or tenant advocacy.
Commissioned housing and tenant-services work appears likely to favour charities with repeatable referral pathways, dependable casework standards and mixed funding. Early-commercial churn seems relatively low, partly because service delivery depends on local trust and continuity rather than short sales cycles. Scale-up remains scarce, so consolidation may come through partnership, contract transfer or shared back-office capacity rather than classic venture-style expansion. Cost pressure could push smaller specialist providers towards narrower service lines, while broader operators may emphasise accommodation linked to prevention and tenancy sustainment.

Key facts
About 1% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (3 of 216 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
5% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (12 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Housing support charities typically combine accommodation, homelessness prevention and tenant advice rather than operating as single-service providers.
Local-authority commissioning is a key route to market, particularly where charities deliver statutory homelessness or supported-housing services.
Accommodation-heavy providers tend to sit at the larger end of the sector, while smaller specialists are more likely to focus on advice, tenancy sustainment or local prevention work.
The sector sits between charitable funding, property management and statutory services, which can make contract income and occupancy risk central operating questions.

How UK Housing Support companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Housing support charities earn income by keeping accommodation, prevention and tenant-service work fundable, auditable and staffed, rather than by selling a discrete product. Revenue usually sits in restricted grants, commissioned service contracts, donations and fees linked to support or accommodation-related services. Pricing is often budget-line based, with funders paying for service capacity, casework outcomes, beds, advice provision or named programmes. Delivery has a service-operations shape: frontline staff, referral intake, risk assessment, support planning, property coordination and funder reporting all sit close together.
Who they sell to
The paying customer is usually not the resident. Most housing support organisations sell, bid or report into public-sector commissioners, grant funders, housing teams and tenant-service functions, while the end users are vulnerable households and residents. Buying influence tends to sit with heads of housing, commissioning managers, operations directors, finance directors, safeguarding leads and trustees. Procurement is commonly through tenders, grant applications, service-level agreements or partnership renewals. Contract value and cycle length vary by service scope, but decisions tend to follow budget rounds, grant windows and contract review points rather than impulse purchasing.
What they buy
Most housing support organisations tend to spend on systems and services that make casework visible, reduce manual reporting and protect service continuity. Common software categories include case management, CRM, referral management, safeguarding logs, outcomes reporting, finance, restricted-fund accounting, HR, payroll, rota management, learning management, donor management and document control. Operational spend can include cloud hosting, devices, telephony, cyber security, facilities support, property maintenance, repairs coordination and insurance. Professional services sellers may find demand around audit, legal advice, bid writing, evaluation, recruitment, training and outsourced back-office work.
Why and how to sell to them
Commercial intent often appears around a new commissioned service, grant award, contract renewal, leadership change, headcount expansion, accommodation change, audit finding or safeguarding review. The recurring pain is administrative drag: multi-funder reporting, duplicated case notes, referral leakage, evidence for outcomes, restricted-fund controls and continuity when frontline teams are stretched. Outbound tends to work when it maps the offer to a funder-facing obligation, such as cleaner reporting, safer handovers or lower casework admin. Generic efficiency claims are less persuasive than showing how a provider can evidence delivery without pulling staff away from residents.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
