Robotics Companies in London: 100+ Active Firms (2026)
Robotics companies in London design, integrate and maintain automated machinery, control systems and industrial robots for UK sectors.
Buying centres tend to sit with operations, engineering, estates, procurement and transformation teams rather than a single software owner. The customer base spans manufacturing plants, logistics operators, infrastructure contractors, healthcare and laboratory settings, construction sites and commercial facilities, with most engagements B2B and some routed through public-sector procurement. Typical work is project-led: a machine-vision inspection cell, a warehouse automation upgrade, a control-system retrofit or a maintenance contract tied to safety-critical equipment. London suppliers often look less like volume robot manufacturers and more like specification, integration and lifecycle-support partners for sites across the UK.
London has 132 actively trading robotics companies in this cohort, making it a specialist market rather than a broad manufacturing base. Fifteen firms report turnover above £5M, while 20 have been incorporated since 2022, so the group mixes established integrators with a thinner recent-startup layer. The employment footprint is modest but visible: 122 of 122 relevant firms report staff, with 1,327 people between them. That pattern fits a capital-equipment sector in which design, installation, compliance and maintenance capacity matter, but many suppliers remain specialist teams rather than large factory operators.
No single UK robotics regulator oversees the field. Machinery placed on the Great Britain market is instead shaped by the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations, which require essential health and safety requirements, conformity assessment, a declaration of conformity and relevant conformity marking before equipment is placed on the market or put into service. gov.uk guidance also allows many covered machinery suppliers to use either CE or UKCA marking in Great Britain. For policy and adoption debates, techUK is the main cross-sector technology trade body; practical market structure is still set by site-level risk assessments, procurement and the cost of integration.
London’s robotics market appears likely to remain project-led rather than product-led. Hardware cycles and safety cases tend to keep sales cycles longer than in pure software, while demand appears to come from logistics, laboratories and commercial facilities where labour constraints and repeatable workflows justify automation. Consolidation may continue around integrators that can combine sensing, motion control, machine vision and after-sales maintenance. Early-stage entrants tend to face a capital and proving-ground problem: customers want reference sites before committing, while suppliers need deployments to refine the system. That tension favours patient specialist providers over thinly staffed concept-stage firms.

Key facts
About 11% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (15 of 132 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
15% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (20 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Machinery placed on the Great Britain market or put into service is covered by the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, including essential health and safety requirements, conformity assessment, a declaration of conformity and relevant conformity marking.
GOV.UK guidance says CE marking recognition for many goods has been extended indefinitely in Great Britain, so covered machinery may use either CE or UKCA markings beyond 31 December 2024.
IFR’s World Robotics 2024 release says UK industrial robot installations increased by 51% to 3,830 units in 2023, with investment driven by automotive-industry assembly tasks.
techUK states that around 20,000 of the UK’s 27,000 manufacturing SMEs operate without robots, and that robotics and automation technologies could contribute £184 billion to the UK economy over the next decade.
IFR says the 2023 global robot-density average was 162 robots per 10,000 manufacturing employees, while the EU stood at 219 and techUK says the UK ranks 24th globally in robotics adoption.

How London robotics companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Revenue usually comes from project fees, integration work, support retainers and maintenance contracts, rather than pure unit sales. A typical supplier earns through design studies, site surveys, hardware procurement, controls engineering, installation, testing, documentation and operator training. Some add recurring income through monitoring software, spares, service-level cover or managed operation of installed equipment. Pricing tends to follow statements of work, milestone billing and support agreements, with risk priced around site access, safety validation and the amount of custom engineering required. Gross margin depends less on licence volume and more on scoping discipline, component sourcing, commissioning time and whether the system can be reused across similar customer sites.
Who they sell to
Most buyers are operational rather than purely technical: operations directors, engineering managers, warehouse leaders, estates teams, laboratory managers, heads of automation and health-and-safety owners. Finance and procurement usually enter once a business case has been built around labour availability, throughput, defect reduction, compliance or uptime. Sales are commonly direct, with partner referrals from equipment suppliers, consultants and construction or facilities contractors. Public-sector and healthcare work can involve frameworks or formal tenders, while commercial deployments often start with a feasibility study or pilot. Sales cycles are usually measured in months, and can stretch when machinery safety, building works, data integration or site shutdown windows are material.
What they buy
Most London robotics firms tend to spend on engineering tools, control-system design, simulation, test equipment, components, sensors, actuators, embedded hardware and secure connectivity. As they move from project delivery into installed-base support, they also need CRM, quoting, field-service management, ticketing, inventory control, warranty tracking and finance systems that handle deposits, milestones and maintenance revenue. Recruitment services are relevant where controls engineers, mechanical designers, safety specialists and field technicians are hard to hire. Legal, insurance and certification support can matter when contracts cover liability, intellectual property, conformity marking, site access and safety-critical performance. Marketing spend is often technical: case studies, tender materials, application notes and sector-specific proof points.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying intent tends to appear when robotics suppliers win a larger deployment, move from prototypes into paid installations, hire senior operations or commercial staff, open a service function, or face customer pressure for better documentation and support. Common pain points include long commissioning periods, thin engineering capacity, component delays, integration risk, safety sign-off and project margin leakage caused by poor scoping. Outbound angles work better when tied to a delivery constraint: reducing rework, improving audit trails, shortening response times, protecting margin or making pilots easier to convert into repeatable deployments. Generic automation messaging is less useful; these buyers usually respond to evidence that a vendor understands site-based engineering work.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
