Precision Medicine Companies in London: 40+ Active Firms (2026)
Precision medicine companies in London develop genomic testing, biomarker analysis and data-led tools for more targeted healthcare.
Buying centres cluster around hospital-facing diagnostics, life-sciences R&D, specialist laboratory operations and clinical-data teams. Customers are usually healthcare providers, research organisations, pharmaceutical groups, diagnostics labs and medtech buyers, with some public-sector exposure where tools sit close to care pathways. Engagements tend to be evidence-heavy: assays, biomarker panels, bioinformatics platforms and decision-support workflows are bought through pilots, validation work and procurement rather than casual software trials. London’s buyer base also expects clinical credibility, information-governance discipline and the ability to work with laboratory or research-led operating models, so sales cycles often look more consultative than self-serve.
London has 42 actively trading precision medicine firms in this list, a narrow cohort by UK life-sciences standards and one that is better read at category level than as a broad software market. Reported headcount across the cohort totals 646 people, reflecting a mix of lean specialist teams and more established laboratory or clinical employers. A small subset sits above £5M turnover, while a similarly sized younger group has incorporated since 2022, leaving the market split between commercially proven operators and earlier-stage firms still building clinical evidence, partnerships and repeatable sales routes.
Precision medicine sits across clinical, laboratory and software obligations rather than a single licence boundary. Tests and biomarker services tend to encounter MHRA rules where a diagnostic product is placed on the market; clinical delivery brings quality and governance expectations; patient-level genomic and health information brings ICO and GDPR duties. Commercial buyers also care about evidence generation, sample handling, interoperability and whether tools can be used in clinical pathways, so procurement cycles are usually slower than for general life-sciences software.
The market appears to be moving away from discovery-led platforms that depend on long research partnerships and towards narrower clinical workflows where evidence, reimbursement and integration can be argued more plainly. Many London firms still look specialist rather than scaled, so buyers may see consolidation around laboratory capacity, clinical decision support and regulated analytics. Procurement tends to reward defensible validation over broad positioning. Regulatory pressure is unlikely to disappear; it may favour teams that can pair bioinformatics depth with clinical governance and commercial discipline.

Key facts
About 16% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (7 of 42 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
16% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (7 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
London precision medicine firms work across genomic testing, biomarker analysis and data-led healthcare tools for more targeted diagnosis and treatment.
The segment sits between life sciences, diagnostics and software, so buyer conversations tend to centre on clinical evidence, patient stratification and analytics.
Specialist diagnostics, biomarker and health-data models make the market distinct from general healthtech.

How London precision medicine companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Revenue usually comes from a mix of test volumes, laboratory service fees, software licences, research collaborations and implementation work. Diagnostic-facing firms may price per assay, sample, report or clinical workflow, while data-led businesses more often charge annual licences, usage fees or project retainers for bioinformatics, analytics and decision-support. Specialist service providers tend to sell validation packages, managed laboratory capacity or contract research rather than pure software. Gross margins and cash timing can vary a great deal, because wet-lab work, clinical validation and data curation bring cost lines that a standard SaaS buyer may not expect.
Who they sell to
Buyers are typically clinical, scientific and operational rather than purely commercial. Heads of pathology, genomics, oncology, laboratory medicine, translational research, bioinformatics and clinical data often shape requirements, with procurement, information governance, finance and legal teams entering once a pilot looks usable. Pharmaceutical and research-organisation buyers may move through direct commercial discussions, while healthcare-provider work is more likely to involve formal procurement, validation committees and implementation planning. Initial contracts are often framed as feasibility studies, departmental deployments or service agreements before any wider roll-out, so sales cycles tend to run in months rather than weeks.
What they buy
Most precision medicine firms tend to spend on the operating layer around science and clinical delivery: laboratory information management systems, sample-tracking tools, bioinformatics workflow software, secure cloud infrastructure, data storage, analytics, quality management, information-governance support and cyber security. Commercial teams may also need CRM, proposal tooling, contract management and billing systems once they move beyond research partnerships into repeatable sales. Services spend often sits with regulatory advisers, clinical validation partners, specialist recruiters, grant and bid writers, accounting teams, legal counsel and marketing agencies able to explain technical evidence without over-claiming clinical utility.
Why and how to sell to them
Precision medicine buyers tend to evaluate vendors when evidence demands start to outrun internal capacity: a new clinical validation programme, a move from research use into regulated diagnostics, a laboratory expansion, a healthcare-provider pilot, or a larger pharmaceutical collaboration. Common pain points include slow procurement, fragmented clinical and research data, audit readiness, sample-chain visibility, security reviews and the cost of proving utility to cautious buyers. Outbound messages usually land better when they attach to a specific workflow burden, such as reducing validation administration, supporting MHRA or ICO-facing processes, improving lab throughput, or making customer evidence easier to package for procurement.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
