Healthtech Companies in London: 200+ Active Firms (2026)
Healthtech companies in London build digital health, medical software and device-adjacent tools for healthcare providers and patients.
Buying centres tend to sit in clinical operations, digital front door teams, diagnostics, life-sciences informatics and provider IT, rather than a single healthtech budget. Sales motions usually involve clinicians, information governance staff and procurement teams, with patient-facing products carrying extra assurance work around accessibility and safety. The better-qualified London cohort sells mainly to public and private healthcare providers, laboratories and care-pathway operators; some also serve life-sciences teams. Engagements are typically evidence-heavy: pilot deployments, integration projects and recurring software contracts where clinical safety, data protection, interoperability and technical security shape the buying process as much as product fit.
London has 223 actively trading healthtech companies in this cohort. Reported employment totals 2,083 people, so the visible footprint is material for a specialist business software and clinical-software market, but still concentrated enough for individual scale-ups to affect hiring patterns. The capital’s role is less about a single product type than about proximity to hospitals, private-care operators, laboratories, finance teams and specialist advisers. That mix tends to favour firms able to navigate procurement, evidence generation and clinical governance, rather than purely consumer-style distribution.
Regulatory exposure depends on the activity rather than the label. Products that qualify as medical devices, software as a medical device, in vitro diagnostics, custom-made devices or systems and procedure packs need MHRA registration before they are placed on the Great Britain market; non-UK manufacturers need a UK responsible person. Public healthcare adoption in England also brings assurance expectations around clinical safety, data protection, technical security, interoperability, usability and accessibility. ICO requirements sit alongside those product and procurement checks, particularly where patient records, remote monitoring or diagnostic decision support are involved.
Early-commercial weight suggests the London cohort will keep separating into distinct groups: vendors with enough clinical evidence and integration depth to sell into institutional care, and smaller teams still proving where they fit in patient pathways. Procurement scrutiny appears unlikely to ease, because buyers are treating safety, privacy and interoperability as adoption conditions rather than back-office checks. Scale-up scarcity may also push more partnerships, acquisitions and specialist channel arrangements, especially where products need access to hospital workflows or laboratory systems. Patient-facing tools tend to face the most exposed trust barrier.

Key facts
About 8% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (20 of 223 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
12% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (27 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Medical devices in Great Britain, including in vitro diagnostics, custom-made devices and systems or procedure packs, must be registered with the MHRA before being placed on the market.
For adoption in England, the Digital Technology Assessment Criteria covers clinical safety, data protection, technical security, interoperability, usability and accessibility.
Official UK life sciences statistics put the 2023/2024 sector at 7,320 companies, 359,600 employees and £146.9 billion turnover, using a changed methodology that is not directly comparable with older releases.
Medical technology accounted for 4,360 companies, 196,000 employees and £48.0 billion turnover in 2023/2024, while the NHS spends an estimated £10 billion a year on medtech.
MedTech Europe estimates the European medical technology market at roughly €170 billion in 2024; Europe represents 26.4% of the world market and the United States accounts for 46.4%.

How London healthtech companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
London healthtech suppliers usually monetise clinical workflow, diagnostic, informatics and patient-engagement products through recurring licences, usage fees, implementation work and support retainers. Pricing often tracks seats, care sites, modules, test volumes, active patients or integration scope, with extra services wrapped around deployment, validation and change management. Device-adjacent firms may add hardware revenue, consumables or maintenance, but software and assurance work still shape the commercial motion. Many engagements begin as department-level pilots before moving into broader provider or laboratory use, so revenue recognition can lag initial clinical interest.
Who they sell to
Most sell to public healthcare providers, private hospital groups, laboratories, care-pathway operators and life-sciences teams. The practical buying group usually spans clinical sponsors, CIO or CTO teams, medical directors, information governance, security, finance and procurement. Private-sector deals can move through direct sales when a clinical owner has budget, while public-sector buying tends to involve formal procurement, supplier assurance, reference sites and staged deployment. Typical cycles are longer when products touch patient records, diagnostic decisions or clinical workflows, because technical fit is only one part of the approval path.
What they buy
Most healthtech firms tend to spend on security, cloud infrastructure, clinical integration, data engineering, analytics, quality management, CRM, billing, finance systems and customer support tooling. Firms selling into providers also buy penetration testing, accessibility testing, clinical safety documentation support, privacy advice, procurement bid writing and specialist implementation help. Earlier-stage teams often need fractional finance, HR and recruitment support before building internal operations. Larger vendors add observability, incident management, data governance, sales operations and partner-management processes as deployments spread across more sites and customer types.
Why and how to sell to them
Healthtech buyers tend to evaluate suppliers when a pilot is moving towards wider deployment, a product is entering an MHRA-relevant pathway, an ICO issue needs tighter controls, or a new commercial lead is trying to turn clinical interest into repeatable sales. Headcount growth, a move into public-sector procurement, new laboratory integrations or a shift from services-heavy delivery to product-led revenue can all create buying windows. Outbound messages usually land better when they reduce assurance effort, make integrations less manual, shorten procurement preparation or protect clinical teams from avoidable operational risk.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
