Crypto Exchange Companies in London: 49 Active Firms (2026)
Crypto exchange companies in London operate cryptoasset trading, brokerage and settlement services for customers under FCA oversight.
Buying centres split between retail brokerage funnels, professional trading desks, institutional execution, and back-office settlement or treasury workflows. Most London operators sell to businesses or mixed consumer and business audiences, with revenue tied to transaction fees, spreads, treasury activity and trading infrastructure. Engagement size tends to vary by customer type: self-serve retail accounts at the light end, negotiated trading and settlement arrangements for professional and institutional users at the heavier end. Compliance, onboarding and fiat-payment connectivity sit close to the buying decision, because a trading venue without bank relationships and customer-screening controls has little room to operate.

London has 49 actively trading crypto exchange and trading companies in this list, a compact cohort with a clear regulated-financial-services bias. Reported employment totals 325 people, so the footprint is relatively lean even before allowing for outsourced compliance, custody, payment and development work. Revenue scale is uneven: 6 firms report turnover above £5M, while 9 were incorporated since 2022. That mix points to a market where a few operators have reached commercial scale, but many remain early-commercial entities whose market access depends on permissions, banking access and customer-acquisition costs.
FCA supervision is the main constraint on market entry. In-scope cryptoasset exchange providers and custodian wallet providers must register for anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing purposes before serving UK customers. The UK financial promotions regime also reaches consumer promotions aimed at UK users, including activity by overseas promoters. This creates an operating burden around registration, trading controls and how products are described, approved and distributed. Application outcomes point to a selective gateway, with withdrawn applications common, so authorisation strategy is part of the commercial model rather than a back-office exercise.
Commercial development appears likely to favour operators that can pair trading access with compliance, payments and institutional service depth. The cohort has an early-commercial tail, while scaled revenue cases are scarcer, so consolidation or quiet exits may be more plausible than a broad wave of new standalone venues. Retail demand tends to bring conduct risk and marketing scrutiny; institutional demand tends to reward execution quality, settlement reliability and balance-sheet discipline. London should keep attracting firms that need proximity to financial-services buyers, but regulatory selectivity may keep the active universe relatively narrow.

Key facts
About 12% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (6 of 49 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
18% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (9 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Cryptoasset exchange providers and custodian wallet providers must register with the FCA under the Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds Regulations 2017 before beginning in-scope UK business.
The UK financial promotions regime applies to cryptoasset promotions to UK consumers, regardless of where the promoting firm is based.
Since January 2020, the FCA had received 396 applications and registered 63 as at 1 May 2026, with many applications withdrawn.
FCA consumer research published in 2024 found that 93% of UK adults had heard of cryptoassets and 12% owned them, extrapolated to around 7 million adults.
Central, Northern and Western Europe accounted for 21.7% of global transaction volume between July 2023 and June 2024, with the UK ranked 12th in a global crypto adoption index.

How London crypto exchange companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
London crypto exchange and trading firms usually earn through a mix of execution fees, bid-offer spreads, brokerage mark-ups, custody or settlement charges, and ancillary treasury activity. The core product is a software-led trading and account platform rather than advice: order routing, wallets or custody workflows, fiat payment rails, reconciliation and reporting wrapped around customer onboarding controls. Retail-facing revenue is usually self-serve and usage-based, with small ticket values aggregated across many accounts. Professional and institutional activity is more negotiated, often priced by volume tier, minimum fee, spread share or bespoke settlement arrangement. Services revenue can appear where operators provide white-labelled trading access or operational support to other financial firms.
Who they sell to
Most buyers split into two camps: individual users acquired through digital onboarding, and finance-sector customers that need execution, liquidity, settlement or treasury access. On the business side, typical stakeholders include founders, CFOs, compliance officers, heads of operations, CTOs, trading leads and procurement teams where the customer is an institution. Smaller accounts may convert through self-serve registration and standard terms. Larger relationships tend to involve direct sales, due-diligence packs, information-security review, legal negotiation and checks on how client assets, promotions and complaints are handled. Sales cycles can stretch where the customer’s own regulator, bank or payments provider needs comfort before activity starts.
What they buy
Crypto exchange operators tend to spend on control layers before discretionary growth tools. Common categories include identity verification, KYB checks, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, fraud detection, wallet-risk scoring, case management, audit evidence, regulatory reporting and complaint handling. Technical teams also buy cloud hosting, observability, incident response, key management, ledger reconciliation, API management, payment connectivity and finance systems that can cope with high transaction volumes. Go-to-market spend is usually more constrained for UK consumer-facing activity because promotions must be approved and described carefully. Recruitment, legal advice, accountancy, tax support and outsourced compliance are also common needs, especially where the operating team is lean.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying intent often appears around regulatory review, banking or payment-partner change, new jurisdictional reach, a move from retail brokerage into institutional execution, or a rise in manual compliance workload. Operators with lean teams tend to value tools that shorten onboarding queues, reduce false positives, evidence control decisions and reconcile trading, wallet and fiat movements without extra headcount. Outbound works better when it speaks to operational constraints rather than crypto enthusiasm. Useful angles include lower compliance handling cost, clearer audit trails, faster partner due diligence, fewer failed payments, better incident readiness and support for financial-promotions governance. Claims need proof, because this sector is used to vendor scrutiny.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
