Blockchain and Crypto Companies in London: 100+ Active Firms (2026)
Blockchain and crypto companies in London build distributed-ledger infrastructure, custody, trading, payments and compliance services for UK and global markets.
Buying centres cluster around institutional finance, digital-asset operations and regulated fintech infrastructure: treasury and payments teams, trading desks, compliance functions, and software engineering groups all appear in the buyer base. Engagements tend to be business-to-business or institutional, with procurement shaped by custody risk, transaction monitoring, wallet governance, market access and integration work rather than simple seat-based software buying. The better-fit suppliers usually carry specialist technical and compliance teams, sell into financial services or enterprise software accounts, and support higher-value contracts where assurance, availability and change control matter as much as product scope.
London has 164 actively trading blockchain and crypto companies in this list, a small enough cohort for firm-level review but large enough to include infrastructure, custody, trading, payments, analytics and compliance models. Reported employment totals 951 people, which points to a specialist workforce rather than a broad labour-market footprint. Commercial maturity is uneven: 16 firms report turnover above £5M, while 36 were incorporated since 2022. That mix gives researchers a split view of the capital’s market, with a limited revenue-scaled tier sitting alongside newer regulation-adjacent entrants still proving demand.
The perimeter remains activity-led. Firms that provide in-scope crypto services must register with the FCA under the Money Laundering Regulations, with supervision focused on anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing controls. Separate obligations touch cryptoasset financial promotions and the Travel Rule, while planned rules are expected to bring more trading platform, custody, dealing, arranging, staking and qualifying stablecoin activity into an authorisation regime. For London suppliers selling to institutional customers, the practical effect is a diligence burden: governance, safeguarding, transaction screening and customer disclosures tend to sit close to product design, not just legal review.
Further maturation appears more likely to come through compliance depth and institutional distribution than through a broad consumer land-grab. The cohort tends to favour compact teams with specialist engineering, operations and risk skills, which may make hiring and authorisation capacity more important constraints than raw company formation. Scale-up scarcity also suggests a market where partnership, acquisition and white-label supply can matter, especially for custody, monitoring and market-access functions. As FCA rules develop, firms already used to regulated buyers may find the adjustment easier than consumer-facing entrants built around lighter onboarding and faster product iteration.

Key facts
About 9% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (16 of 164 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
21% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (36 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
Firms providing in-scope crypto services must register with the FCA under the Money Laundering Regulations for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing supervision.
The future UK crypto regime is expected to come into force on 25 October 2027, covering qualifying trading platforms, custody, dealing, arranging, staking and stablecoin issuance.
FCA-commissioned research published in 2024 found that 93% of UK adults had heard of cryptoassets and 12% owned them, equivalent to around 7 million adults.
The FCA continues to describe crypto investing as unregulated and high-risk, even as ownership is described more often as part of a wider investment portfolio.
A 2024 crypto adoption index ranked the United Kingdom 12th overall out of 151 countries; the United States ranked 4th.

How London blockchain and crypto companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
London blockchain and crypto firms typically earn through a mix of subscription fees, transaction fees, custody or safeguarding charges, infrastructure licences and implementation work. Analytics and compliance providers often price by usage, monitored volume or account tier, while trading, payments and staking-adjacent models tend to attach revenue to flows, assets or operational events. Infrastructure sellers usually need integration, testing and assurance work before recurring revenue begins. That makes many engagements closer to regulated fintech procurement than ordinary software buying: technical due diligence, operational resilience, change control and evidence of controls can shape the deal as much as the headline feature set.
Who they sell to
Most sell to institutions rather than casual retail users: financial services firms, fintechs, digital-asset operators, enterprise technology teams and specialist investment functions. Common sponsors include CTOs, Heads of Engineering, Chief Compliance Officers, MLROs, CFOs, treasury leads and operations directors. Smaller customers may buy through founder-led evaluation or direct sales, but banks and larger platforms usually involve procurement, security review, legal review and compliance sign-off. Contract values tend to vary by risk and volume rather than headcount alone. Trials, sandboxes and limited-scope deployments are common, because buyers want proof that the service behaves properly before it touches customer assets or regulated workflows.
What they buy
Most blockchain and crypto firms tend to spend on compliance tooling, security, cloud infrastructure, identity checks, transaction monitoring, customer screening, case management and audit evidence. Engineering teams also buy observability, incident management, testing, data pipelines, API tooling and developer workflow software, particularly where uptime or transaction integrity affects customer confidence. Finance and operations teams need reconciliation, tax reporting, payments operations, insurance support, legal advice and specialist accounting. Recruitment services can fit where firms are adding compliance, security, engineering or operations capacity. Suppliers with experience selling into regulated fintech buyers usually have an easier conversation than generic software sellers relying on seat-count economics.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying intent often appears when firms move from pilot activity into institutional production, apply for or maintain FCA registration, expand custody or trading-related services, add compliance leadership, or win customers that impose heavier vendor diligence. Rule changes around financial promotions, the Travel Rule, stablecoins, market abuse and authorisation can also move budgets from discretionary experiments into operational controls. Outbound works better when it starts with risk, evidence and implementation burden rather than category slogans. Useful angles include reducing manual compliance work, shortening audit preparation, improving incident response, supporting enterprise procurement questionnaires, or helping technical teams prove that integrations are secure and observable.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
