Web3 and DeFi Companies in London: 90 Active Firms (2026)
Web3 and DeFi companies in London build decentralised finance, token infrastructure and blockchain applications for financial and digital markets.
Buying centres cluster around institutional operations, developer platforms and vertical finance workflows: treasury teams assessing tokenised assets, engineering groups needing ledger tooling, and digital-commerce businesses testing wallet or settlement use cases. Sales are mostly business-to-business, with institutional and mid-market buyers expecting diligence on governance, cryptography, custody controls and integration effort before budget moves. Engagements tend to look like pilots that become platform subscriptions, implementation retainers or usage-based infrastructure contracts. The common thread is a specialist technical sale into customers that need distributed-ledger capability but also want ordinary procurement, support and risk documentation.

London has 90 active Web3 and DeFi companies in this list, a narrow specialist cohort rather than a broad software category. Reported employment totals 803 people, which points to compact technical and commercial teams rather than labour-heavy operating models. The local pattern is unsurprising: proximity to finance, legal advice, fund administration and digital-market customers makes London a natural testing ground for token infrastructure and decentralised-finance workflows. Even so, the cohort looks selective, with a limited pool of firms breaking into larger turnover bands.
Regulatory exposure is activity-dependent, not sector-wide. Token infrastructure that stays close to development tooling has a different compliance profile from services touching client money, trading, lending, custody or financial promotions. For London buyers, procurement often asks whether wallet controls, asset segregation, monitoring and audit trails can survive internal risk review, even when the supplier presents itself as a software vendor. That creates a market structure where legal design, operational controls and counterparty assurance sit alongside smart-contract engineering.
Further maturation appears more likely to come from narrower infrastructure and compliance-adjacent use cases than from consumer-facing decentralised apps. Enterprise buyers tend to reward boring reliability: clear custody arrangements, traceable transactions, audit evidence and well-scoped integration paths. Early-commercial firms may find that technical credibility is not enough when procurement, legal and finance teams all have veto rights. Scale-up scarcity could also leave room for consolidation, especially where smaller application-layer teams need distribution, licences or balance-sheet comfort from partners. London should remain useful as a customer and talent base, but the market still looks selective rather than broadly open.

Key facts
About 6% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (6 of 90 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
24% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (22 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
London’s Web3 and DeFi market sits close to the city’s finance and software base, particularly around trading, payments, custody and settlement workflows.
Many products in this segment are infrastructure or workflow tools for digital-asset markets, rather than broad consumer applications.
Revenue appears concentrated among a smaller set of scaled operators, with several other firms clustered below that band.

How London Web3 and DeFi companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Revenue usually comes from software access, infrastructure usage and specialist implementation work rather than one-off licences. Many firms package ledger, wallet, smart-contract or tokenisation capability as a platform subscription, then add paid integration, governance design and support around production use. Where the service sits close to settlement, trading or treasury workflows, pricing may also follow transaction volume, wallet activity or API consumption. Engagements often start as technical pilots because buyers need to test controls, latency, auditability and internal sign-off before committing to a wider deployment.
Who they sell to
Customers are typically institutional, financial, developer-led or digital-commerce organisations rather than broad consumer audiences. The first conversation may sit with a CTO, VP Engineering, Head of Product or treasury lead, but legal, risk, finance and procurement often shape the final decision. Smaller customers may buy direct after a technical evaluation, while regulated-market and enterprise accounts tend to use security questionnaires, vendor onboarding and sometimes RFP-style processes. Initial contracts are usually bounded pilots, implementation projects or limited platform subscriptions, with sales cycles measured in weeks or months rather than a self-serve checkout motion.
What they buy
Most Web3 and DeFi firms tend to spend on the operating layer around the technical product: cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, security testing, key management, monitoring, analytics, support systems and incident response. Firms selling into finance or digital-asset workflows also buy legal advice, accounting support, compliance tooling, audit preparation and governance documentation. Commercial teams often need CRM, customer success tooling, usage-based billing, partner management and content support once pilots become repeatable sales motions. Hiring needs usually cluster around engineering, security, product, compliance and enterprise sales, with contractors used where cryptography or smart-contract review is scarce.
Why and how to sell to them
Buying intent tends to appear when a proof of concept moves towards production, an institutional customer asks for evidence, or a service starts touching custody, settlement, lending or financial-promotion risk. New funding, senior commercial hires, a revenue step-up or expansion into a more regulated workflow can also force process upgrades. Useful outbound angles are concrete: reduce time spent on diligence, improve audit trails, make integrations easier to evidence, or give lean teams repeatable controls without adding headcount. Generic claims about Web3 growth are less persuasive than showing how the offer helps risk, engineering and commercial teams pass the same internal review.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
