Open Banking Companies in London: 70+ Active Firms (2026)
Open banking companies build account-data and payment connectivity services for banks, lenders and financial platforms across London.
Buying centres cluster around account-information services for credit and affordability teams, payment-initiation tooling for merchants and platforms, and data-aggregation infrastructure used inside regulated finance workflows. Buyers are usually banks, lenders, payment firms, wealth platforms and accounting providers rather than consumer end-users. The commercial motion tends to be business-to-business and integration-led: procurement, security review, compliance sign-off and API implementation all sit inside the sale. Typical engagements are recurring platform contracts, often tied to transaction volumes, account connections or usage tiers, with specialist product, engineering, compliance and commercial teams needed before suppliers look credible to mid-market financial-services customers.

London has 70 actively trading open banking firms in this cohort, making it a concentrated city-level market rather than a broad software category. Reported headcount totals 862 employees, so its employment footprint is visible but not yet comparable with larger financial-technology segments in the capital. The buyer mix points towards institutional demand: banks, lenders, payment firms, wealth platforms and accounting providers need connectivity that can survive compliance review as well as product testing. Several suppliers have moved beyond small consultancy-style delivery, but much of the market still looks specialist, integration-heavy and dependent on regulated customers’ procurement cycles.
Regulation enters through the activities these firms enable rather than through a single open-banking label. Account-information and payment-initiation models sit close to regulated permissions, customer consent, bank access rules and liability questions when something fails in the payment or data chain. That matters commercially because the buyer is often itself regulated: a lender, payment firm, bank, wealth platform or accounting provider with its own audit and risk requirements. Market structure therefore rewards suppliers that can document controls, explain data use, and keep integration responsibilities clear across the financial account and payments workflow.
Early-commercial weight appears to remain a feature of London open banking. Many providers are still proving repeatable sales into regulated institutions, where adoption depends on trust, technical reliability and the customer’s appetite for replacing existing connectivity. Scale-up scarcity tends to keep partnerships, channel access and bank coverage at the centre of competition. Consolidation is plausible where similar API-led platforms chase the same lenders and payment customers, although specialist workflows may allow narrower providers to persist if they own a defensible integration niche.

Key facts
About 14% of the trading cohort reports turnover above £5M (10 of 70 firms) — the rest sits below that revenue band.
18% of the cohort was incorporated since 2022 (13 firms), so a sizeable share is in its first few filing cycles.
London open banking providers tend to sell infrastructure, workflow and connectivity services into banks, lenders and financial platforms rather than consumer-only apps.
Account-connectivity services sit close to credit assessment, bank-account payments, personal finance tools and embedded financial services buying teams.
Procurement usually involves security, compliance and operational-resilience checks because these services handle bank-account access and payment initiation.

How London open banking companies work and how to sell to them
What they do
Open banking providers earn revenue by giving other businesses controlled access to account information, payment initiation and financial-connectivity workflows. The sale is usually a recurring platform contract rather than a one-off software licence, with fees linked to account connections, payment volume, API calls, modules or minimum monthly commitments. Some engagements begin as paid pilots where a buyer tests coverage, consent journeys and operational reliability before moving into production. Implementation work can be billable, but services tend to support the platform rather than sit at the centre of the model. The product shape is API-led software, with developer documentation, consent handling, monitoring, reporting and operational support wrapped around it.
Who they sell to
Most London open banking firms sell into regulated financial services and finance-adjacent software rather than broad horizontal markets. Typical buyers include credit, payments, product, engineering, risk, compliance and procurement teams, with CTOs or chief product officers often involved when the integration touches core customer journeys. Smaller buyers may purchase through direct sales after a technical workshop and security review. Larger institutions tend to require RFPs, vendor-risk checks, legal review, service-level negotiation and production testing. Sales cycles are rarely purely self-serve because the buyer has to validate permissions, uptime, liability allocation and how customer consent is captured and evidenced.
What they buy
Open banking firms tend to spend on cloud infrastructure, API management, observability, incident management, security testing, identity tooling and internal analytics. Commercial teams often need CRM, revenue operations, billing, subscription management, customer success tooling and support systems that can cope with usage-based contracts. Compliance and risk spend usually covers legal advice, audit support, policy management, vendor-risk documentation, insurance and training. Hiring needs skew towards backend engineers, product managers, implementation specialists, compliance staff and partnership roles. Marketing spend is usually more account-based than consumer-facing, with case studies, technical content, events and partner channels used to reach regulated buyers.
Why and how to sell to them
Open banking buyers tend to evaluate vendors when bank coverage gaps, consent drop-off, payment failure rates or customer onboarding friction start affecting revenue. Supplier decisions can also follow a move from pilots into production, a new institutional customer, a senior commercial or technical hire, or pressure to evidence controls during procurement. Outbound works better when it connects to a specific workflow: shortening security reviews, reducing failed integrations, improving monitoring, supporting usage-based billing, or producing cleaner audit trails. Generic efficiency claims are less useful. These firms usually need proof that a vendor understands regulated financial workflows, technical dependencies and the cost of downtime.
How this list is built
Data sources
This list is built from UK Companies House filings, XBRL accounts data, and semantic analysis of each company's public website. Revenue and headcount figures come from the most recent filed accounts; where the company has not filed, values are estimated using a model trained on filed history and peer benchmarks and are labelled as estimates.
Classification
Rather than relying solely on SIC codes, Firmbase classifies each company semantically: the company's website is crawled, an AI model reads what the company actually sells, and the company is placed into the relevant industry and subsectors. SIC codes are used as one signal but not the only one. This means a company that registered under a generic SIC code but pivoted into (for example) fintech is correctly identified as fintech, not as its original SIC category.
Freshness
The underlying company data is refreshed from Companies House continuously; filings appear in the list within days of submission. The curated list ordering is regenerated when the underlying data moves meaningfully (company count changes by more than 5%, a new company enters the top-ranked segment, or the filed-revenue numbers for the top firms change). You can see the last-updated timestamp near the top of the page.
